Sandra is a second-year doctoral student in the Special Education program at the University of Alberta. Her research experience and interests include reading intervention for children with dyslexia and ELLs, biliteracy development, and early numeracy and literacy assessment. Originally from Mexico, she worked for several years as a Learning Coach in English-immersion schools, one of which was Alberta Education certified. Currently, she is working with both Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools on large-scale longitudinal reading fluency projects. Under the supervision of Dr. George Georgiou, she will be developing a dissertation on the cognitive underpinnings of reading fluency development.
